Ep.2/ Training for Health
CrossFit defines health as fitness across all the years of your life. This episode introduces the concept and dives into some of the key implications, particularly for those in the later years of life.
LISTEN NOW
In this episode, I interview XXX, who is a medical doctor and fitness enthusiast, and who has completed XX athletic endeavors after age 50.
We investigate the meaning of health, and how her perspective on health has changed with age, how she’s adjusted her own training to accommodate changes associated with age (and wisdom!), and the recommendations she makes to her patients to facilitate maximal health.
Health is not influenced only by physical activity, but also by other factors that influence fitness (defined by CrossFit as work capacity, or average power output, across broad time and modal domains).
In the episode, Dr. XX and I discuss the importance of exercise alongside these other factors - including nutrition, sleep, hydration, supplements, common medications, and reliance on toxic substances or behaviors - and strategies for optimizing our life choices to positively influence health.
We also talk about negative perceptions of CrossFit, and how these can inhibit older adults from being willing to enter a CrossFit gym, and what CrossFit coaches and affiliate owners can do to help combat these perceptions, alongside what older adults can do to help mitigate their risks of injury.
Ep.2/
Training for Health
Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does. It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
